Mami and Her Home-made Bread

So last week I made these Japanese Milk Bread , for the 3rd AND the 4th time. I made one loaf Saturday, took me 3 hours from kneading to proofing to taking it out from the oven. 3/4 of the loaf was gone in 10 mins and Kimi was raving about it.  "Mami, roti mami tu, boleh jual mami! Makan macam tu je pun sedap tak payah sapu apa-apa!" "Mami, roti mami dah habis. Buat lagi please."  "Mami, lepas ni tak payah beli roti dekat kedai lagi." High on cloud 9, I obliged and made another loaf on Sunday, using my new loaf pan. 3 hours later, 3/4 loaf was gone just like that.  Oh Kimi honey, you have no idea how much you've brighten up my day, sayang! Bake hari hari pun takpe!  (only that I have run out of bread flour and it isn't easy to find them where we live).

Reading Corner Project

Image
I used to be an avid reader (fictions, biographies), back then when smartphones did not exist, when I used to commute on public transport, and back then when I did not have to read Handy Manny before bedtime. I love reading, always have, still do a bit of reading although nowadays it's more of reading trash online (guilty: beautifulnara).  Anyhooo, I want my kids to pick up the reading habit as well, because reading is good. Alright, it's not so much of "melentur buluh", the truth is, I HATE seeing them being too dependent on their gadgets. Kimi, once, told me that "Kimi sedang termenung tengok burung dekat luar" when I imposed a no-tab time for him. Ko bole termenung je nak? Do you understand what it means? I think he doesn't know what to do without his tab. But nevermind. There’s still time to change that. Inspired by some of the supermommies on Instagram, I started on a reading corner project for the house. A pretty little library sound...

Churros!

Image
When I was pregnant with Kimi, I had cravings for things that I used to love in the States. I wanted cheese pizza they used to serve at Union's Fathers, strawberry cream cheese, Shalimar's tikka masala and churros . Ngeh ngeh ngeh. Mengada2, I know. I got my Strawberry Cream Cheese, that's after ach pusing satu KL siap google cold storage punya outlets, last2 jumpa dekat The Garden's. Yang lain tak dapat exactly what I wanted, tapi dapat la equivalent of them. I didn't get churros. Even dekat US dulu pun aku makan dekat theme parks aje. After I delivered I totally forgot about churros, until last week, when we stumbled upon Molten Lava at One Utama's New Wing. And they make churros oo eemm ji. The churros are sold with choices of different dips, but we like our churros sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, just like the ones in Great Escape. Sedap. Tapi takde la sedap gila tapi comparable la. The dough macam liat2 sikit. Its crispy on the outside but soft (but bit lia...

Mini Donat

Image
Okay yang ini bukan milk tea tapi ada rasa macam nak tulis jugak. The one that we went to is the one in Tesco Setia Alam. Ini memang a must eveytime we visit our new house. Kiranya kalau pindah nanti memang ada potential nak gemok gila aku ni asyik bantai donat je. Back to the mini donuts, in my opinion, these are among the best donuts i have ever tasted. FYI, I dont like the dunkin-donuts cakey types of donuts. I dont like complicated donuts like boston creme or mango filled something something or durian donuts. Donuts, to me, are best served original, that is sprinkled with sugar. Glazed pun ok. And donuts should be light and airy. (gaya2 donut selalu jual kat carrefour's bakery section). The best so far is Krispy Kreme donuts followed by JCo / Big Apple, tapi itupun yang served fresh from oven, bukan yang dah displayed lama and eaten sejuk. Kalau sejuk it becomes yucky. Too sweet and too lembek. Mini donuts sedap sebab its bite sized, and most important of all the dough itself i...

Tea1

Image
I am going to sing lots and lots of praises to this awesome human creation since this is the very reason Ach and I became bubble tea addicts. The milk tea does not taste like tea or the usual teh tarik mamak, it tastes more like vanila flavored milk with a hint of jasmine tea. I said jasmine because the tea smells and tastes very-very wangi! Its creamy and sweet but not too sweet nor too creamy that you feel full after 3 sips. The amount of ice cubes put into it is just right, they dont melt immediately making the tea tasteless in five minutes. The tapioca pearls, oo emm ji. They're not like ordinary tapioca pearls. These are special ones. They're chewy but not too chewy that they become rubbery, they're sweet but not too sweet. They taste and and smell like jasmine too, just like the tea.You know when you take a sip of bubble tea, you expect to sip the pearls together tapi you're not too sure how many you could get? Every piece is like a surprise. With this one, every ...

How I Feed My Family in One (or Two, max) Days

Image
Since I became maidless, I have tried my best to make a lot of things convenient for me. That includes, mostly, closing one eye over a messy house and unfolded laundries, as well as developing thick skin when seeing mak lipat kain while I baring2 dekat living room. The thing is, I AM embarrassed when mak does the laundry and folding and storing them in my closet. But, my job is too demanding that by the time I get back I just don’t have the brain space to do as much as watch tv. All I want is get a good shower and eat and play2 and sleep (at 930!). I just leave the unfolded laundry in the maid’s room and turn it into a whole messy closet of mine. As in, korek2 je underneath the rubble of baju and I sure will find my bra hidden somewhere. See, that’s convenient for me. Okay I digress. Sorry. Back to the story, since I can’t exactly tell mak to stop doing the laundry, I took over the task of cooking dinner. What I’ve been doing since the past 3 weeks is I spend a good deal of my Saturday...

Kimilicious @ Lake Garden

Image
It's been a while. I hope it's not too late to wish all readers a Happy New Year =) Talkin about new year, this little family of mine spent the first day of the year bergolek-golek guling-guling at the Lake Garden picnicking with Kay and family. It's been a while since Kay and I last met and did something together. Last time was in INTEC itu pun I dont remember much of it. Masa tu we were still bunch of anak dara who didnt know much but to have fun, pegi dating, langgar our curfew and what not. Both of us are now married. She has an adorable daughter, Inas Kamalyna , who speaks arabic. ( shughul = work. Eh ye ke Kay?? ). Kimi barely understands english. Ini arabic terus. Hebat. Kay sangat rajin she brought mihun goreng and air kotak while ach and I brought only Kimi and our empty tummies. Btw, Kay also happens to be a photographer. FYI, Kay ni dulu dekat INTEC used to be tone deaf and tak artistic langsung but since she went to Arizona she became really artistic and someh...

Weekend Cooking Extravaganza

Image
Pretty Vitamin C! Previously Kimi gets his daily intake of Vit C from either frozen fruit cubes or grated apples. But lately I've been slacking off, saya agak malas utk buat fruit cubes jadi dia asyik makan grated apples saja everyday. I guess he's had too much of it dia tamau makan dah. I need to think of new ways to give him his vitamins. So last week I bought popsicle molds at Daiso at the Curve and made fruit popsicles for Kimi! Sukaaa!! Actually they're just frozen fruit purees, but instead cubed, dia bentuk popsicle. Hihihi. For my first attempt I made mango, orange + mango and kiwi popsicle. Ach ate most of the kiwi popsicle sebab Kimi doesn't quite like it. Masam kot. Hihihi. Next time will try more popsicle recipes. Suka! that's my ice cream mold, and that's my kiwi puree, that unfortunately, kimi tak suka Chocolate Chip and Blueberry Muffin I had the urge to bake something yesterday, the only things available in my kitchen are just nice to bake muffin...

Holiday!

So, remember the last entry? The picture of our toothbrushes? We were at Redang! So, we went to terengganu last week for Maliki's reception. Alang-alang dah pergi terengganu, we went to redang sekali la. We stayed at Berjaya for 4 days 3 nights Awesome, I tell you, awesome!!! The water is blue, turquoise kot, it's so clear that you can see the bottom, the sands white, the beach is clean, pokok-pokok kelapa goyang-goyang, angin sepoi2 bahasa, the ombak tak kuat... it's a slice of heaven. I've always been a beach person, I dont mind spending the whole day lying at the beach, sleeping, swimming, berendaming, all sorts of things. Redang happened to be the perfect place to do this, sebab, there's nothing much to do here, no sight seeing, no shopping, so we had the wholeeeeeee four days to bum around. Except, kimi's eczema means he can't be sweating that much or that'll worsen his condition, so we spent some days watching movie after movie in the room. Okay t...

When Ajan Went for a Football Match

Image
I know, I know, laugh all you want. Ajan, watched, football match, cannot be spoken in the same breath without somebody being laughed at. When mak first found out, she said “Kau reti ke tengok bola tu?”. Mate asked, “Sejak bila kau tengok bola mate?” Well peeps, this is what we call marriage. You accommodate each other’s plans. Even if it means spending 3 hours in a packed stadium, sitting right next to an ass who insists on clogging his and your lungs with his cigs puffs and deafening your ears with those horns. OR it could also be spending 3 hours watching women dancing and singing in Mamma Mia! or watching chick-flicks like P.S I Love You. Teehehe. Okay sorry, I digress. Back to the match, even though I don’t know much about football, I know enough to choose my team. I chose Malaysia!! Dengan bangganya I wore baju yellow amidst the sea of reds! Go Malaysia! I cheered louder than ach when Malaysia scored!! At least I know which side is our goal. Teehehehe. Sangat bangga the moment th...
