29 Februari

Ach memang peminat tegar KRU.

Okay taklah sampai macam tu sekali but he always made it a point to watch their movies - with the exception of the two cicakman movies. Maybe I should rephrase the first sentence to "Ach peminat tegar movies by Edry KRU". Okay sebenarnya kitorang tgk Merong, Magika and 29 Februari je. Jangan harap I would agree to watching Cinta Kura-kura.

Last night despite all of us being so penat from open houses, we went to watch 29 Februari at Alamanda. Tickets were bought from GSC's iPhone app. Sungguh hebat wey. Paid for movies atas angin gitu2 je, tau2 duit dah kena tolak je from bank. Takyah queue for ticket, main scan je. Jakun.

Back to the movie.

I think it's a good effort by KRU; they offer fresh ideas in telling a mohabbatein-style love story - a plot that is so basi and  would otherwise be boring if told by the Mohaideen siblings . For someone who is buta seni like me, the script is well-written without much annoying, cliched, eye-ball rolling inducing lines. Cinematography pun cantik. Sedap mata memandang lah orang kata.

Tetapi.

(spoilers ahead)

IMHO the movie is a bit rushed - important bits felt rushed through and too much emphasis were given to unimportant parts. For example, Budi and Lily's love scenes dating lapan belas kali dekat Lake Garden could be cut short and more emphasis given to the parts when Budi goes to Penang to look for Lily. Ini idak, bercintanya over 4 years berscene-scene, part cari Lily dekat Penang that spans from 1962 - 2012 was squeezed in one song. You only get the idea that  Budi is living decade by decade through his evolving hairstyle. Budi 2012 of course Budi yang paling hensem, Budi 70s paling tak style. At the end of that one song, you're brought to 2012 - during which Budi already owns a kedai bunga.

Just like that. Without any characted development, without any indication of Lily, what he actually went through, how he gave up (or did he even give up?) on searching for Lily, how he moved on and at what point did he set up his kedai bunga. Tetiba je da kaya and ada kedai bunga. Ada sedikit blur di situ.

Itu yang belah kanan tu. 70's hairstyle ke?

That is not the only thing about the movie, it kinda left me confused sebab, eh ini love story ke? Nak kata love story, mula-mula je rasa sweet lepas tu masa dia cari tu dekat Penang tu dah jadi self development / destruction pun boleh juga, the first 15 minutes tu rasa macam a patriotic movie pun ada jugak sebab agak lama jugak dia cerita time merdeka tu. Dah hujung-hujung tu jadi love story balik when he finally found the aged (very very aged) Lily. So aku confused.

No comments on 3D effects sebab tak tengok. Pening kepala.

I don't know why I even bother to write on the movie - but all in all, it's a good effort and should be okay lah for you to spend your money on.

Support local movie!

Only if it's by KRU. Or Kabhir Bahtiar. Or macam ni:

if(director != 'Razak Mohaideen')
 support = true
else
 support = false
