Wawasan 2020 & COVID-19

So it's 2020, the year most, if not all, 90's kids were made to sing about every week at the school assemblies.

Actually, when the fourth prime minister, the one who envisioned Wawasan 2020 in the first place, came into power and became the seventh prime minister, he realised that Wawasan 2020 was never going to take place and pushed the goalpost to 2030, this time calling in Wawasan Kemakmuran Bersama 2030. You know because the country was so divided that we have to make a point to makmur bersama sama. We had high hopes because we had just toppled a kleptocratic government. Things started looking up, although some of the new ministers fumbled, we were hopeful.

Now we're three months in, the envisioned 2020 is far from reality, and I am not even sure if the adjusted goalpost would become a reality either. Last month, in a historic coup, the seventh prime minister stepped down and the government that was supposed to take Malaysia to new horizons fell down. A new backdoor government came into power and we now have the 8th prime minister. All these happened as the world is facing a pandemic called COVID-19.

Instead of prospering, as we kids sang on top of our lungs many years ago,  the country is almost grinding to a halt. The country is put on a restricted movement order to contain the spreading of the virus. And yet, we have idiots trying to flee the cities and back to their hometowns, as if their hometowns are going to be any safer. As of this post, Malaysia has 622 confirmed cases, with 2 deaths. I can go on and on about the second wave and how angry I am at ii) the lack of urgency by the Government in imposing bans of public gathering and ii) the lackadaisical attitudes of certain Malaysians in facing the virus, but there really is no point.

What about aChieaJanie's unit?

We've called Jakarta, Indonesia our home for the last one year. Yep, Abah your little girl is exploring the world. When all else is bleak, we'd like to call this progress. Now in the next few weeks (pray hard it's not extended to months), our little family unit might not be able to be together as Malaysia shuts its borders to both citizens and non-citizens. I am worried. Not for me, but for Hakimi and Hadi, and also for the wellbeing of my husband.

So pray hard, I hope we all get to the other side of this and we'll move on. Until then, pray hard.

Love,
Ajan
