Tumbletots: To join or not join?

Last Saturday we took Kimi to Tumbletots at The Curves for its Gymbabes trial class. It was a 45-minutes session of physical activities for the babies. The first 5 mins or so was for warming up, 35 minutes for the activities and last 5 minutes for warming down. Warming up and down includes singing and doing some hand and leg movements, while physical activities include climbing up and down ramps, ladders, practice jalan aided by bars. There were only 3 babies and 7 trainers, which I think is a good number for a small class.

Anyways here are my comments:

1. The class is a bit on the expensive side. The trial class cost me RM60. They have two types of packages, one for one month (4 sessions) and another one for 3 straight months (12 sessions). Fee for one month is RM240, fee for 3 months is RM680.


2. For that kinda fee, I expect the activities to be more than just pusing2 tergolek. According to this lady I spoke to, the trainers usually only monitors / help new parents. Yang lain boleh bawak baby main sendiri. Which means, for the upcoming classes, I’ll only be paying to use their equipments and to get the trainers sing-sing during warm up and down sessions.

I can duplicate the sets with stacks of bantal-bantal and sing my own songs at home, for free! And I can use the RM680 to buy dozens of kick-ass toys.

My inclination at the moment is to not sign up.

BUT, I know the bantal stacks and the toys I’d buy will not be as interesting as the colorful ones in Tumbletots. Time is another issue. I’ll be too busy with other things i.e. pegi pasar pegi swimming masak breakfast yadda yadda that I’ll easily forget Kimi’s playtime. Having a scheduled class is a good way to remind me of Kimi’s development.

Plus, Kimi looked like he was having a blast there. Which babies wont? He was free to move however he likes. It’s fun to see him tumbling and tergolek and pusing-pusing and climbing up and down without much worry since the floor is mostly padded. As opposed to at home, where we’ll always shout, “Kimiiiiiiii karang terantuk karanggg!” or “Eyy jangan main meja la” or “Ey karang terlanggar pasu nenek karang!”. And not to mention the number of toys available! Kimi was overwhelmed!

Another strong justification would be that I want kimi to mix with other people and babies instead of only us at home, especially the bibik who calls handphone “hape” ("ha" as in hari and "pe" as in petah).
