Kitchen Renovation II

Image
The renovation is complete, but the kitchen is still sans cabinet now.Ach is happy because he's got his wood tiles. I dont know what they call that tiles, but they're tiles but they look like wood. Whatever it is, I'm happy that he's happy! Next in our to-do list: Decide on the paint color .   We want the whole house to have continuity, so the colors must tie the spaces together. Hence, the color schemes must blend. Unlike now, our bedroom is in kiwi-green and yellow (hahaha ok please laugh) while the living room is pink (yes, please laugh again). Maybe back then I would've included every color in the rainbow if money was not an issue. Ceyy.  So, in order for us to choose our kitchen color, we must also decide what color the rest of the house, at least the first floor, will be. Pening! Luckily ach found this software, it makes the whole process easier. But I still can't decide tho. Decide on the grill type .  Ach wants the grills to be as unobtrusive as poss...

Happy Father's Day, Ayah!!!

Image
Okay. Dah dua entry sedih. Mari jangan sedih lagi. Kita celebrate ayah yang ada. Actually,  I am really broke this month, and prolly many more months to come because of the reno works that are going on now. Takpe, biar papa sementara janji rumah cantik. So I decided to celebrate on a lower note this year, no makan-makan outside or hadiah this year. After considering many-many plans, I thot a simple breakfast in bed and a home-made father's day card would suffice. It's the thot that counts, kan??? The Card I started by designing the card three days before d-day. I made a three-panel card and made a quilled bottle and quilled heart untuk depan card. I used this picture as a guide. Seriously, this quilling thing is interesting! Comel gila end product dia. It's not that difficult, tho its VERY meticulous since you have to cut lots of 1/8 inch of paper strips (sangat kecik ok??) lepas tu you have to roll them and the rolls are sooooooooo small that you have to hold them usin...

Happy Father's Day! Part II

Image
In 2001, I was offered that scholarship to RPI. Abah was thrilled.  Only that, I wasn’t. You see, that time, Abah had suffered a few heart attacks already. I was scared of anything that might happen. I wanted to reject that scholarship. But abah said, “ Kalau Ajan risaukan abah, tak payah. This is your future. Abah will be fine. ” He insisted that I take the scholarship. Because making abah happy mattered to me more than anything, I took the scholarship. A few months after that, in between a few heart attacks and hospital stays, everything was fine. Until June 2001.  Abah was admitted to IJN. The doctors gave the OK for abah to do his bypass surgery, and scheduled it on the 11th June 2001, I think at 10 in the morning.I might be wrong. 11th June 2001, 955 in the morning, we accompanied abah to the surgery room. As he was being pushed into the room, Abah smiled and waved at us. He said, see you soon . Only that, we didn’t. Abah didn’t regain consciousness after ...

Happy Father's Day!

That’s my abah. I believe that was me sandwiched between Mak and Abah. Or maybe that was Bancik. Not sure. Abah was born in 1939. That would’ve made him 71 this year. Mak said, abah is the last of two siblings. He has a sister, who happens to be the most fussy woman I have ever met in my whole life. Seriously, I’m not exaggerating. At 27 or something like that, Abah married Mak, who was 19 at that time. Mak never want to tell us how Abah mengorat her. The only thing I knew about them was that Mak fondly called abah Abang Mus. Which, I remembered, made me laughed my head off almost guling2 on lantai when I found that out. Yucks. Geli. My brothers and sister always told me about the  days when Abah selalu rotan them, for simple reasons like, mandi sungai, tak sampai rumah before Maghrib or failing their exams. They said, abah used to rotan them with clothes hanger sampai patah or once I think I heard they mentioned paip getah. Stories like these made me thankful that I wasn’t bor...

Kitchen Renovation

Image
The renovation is progressing very fast. I hope they do a good job despite the short time taken to do it. The kitchen is coming along very well now. At least I can see the rupa of the kitchen already, unlike before when I was worried that the kitchen is gonna be too small and cramped and what not, despite having the complete floorplan. Obviously that lukisan kejuruteraan class i took for two years  in high school was a complete waste of time! Kesian. As i mentioned in my entry last week, we were quite undecided on the color scheme. Ach and I have made good progress this week, we have finally decided on the colors, we even know what tiles we want for the kitchen floor! So we've decided on black and white everything with stainless steel appliances. We'll also have white tiles (not mosaics) for our backsplash. The only problem now is the tiles that I want is not available in matte finish. Must go out and search some more. Sigh, I foresee another non-weekend ahead! Like I'v...

Hakimi @ 20 months

Image
My baby is no longer a baby now. At 20 months young, Kimi is now avery active kid. His vocab has expanded too, though he can't talk yet, but he can say a few words clearly now. But most of the times he just makes sounds of the things that he knows. Kimi responds to sounds better than the words themselves. Ada kids younger than him dah boleh cakap a lot of things, but i am not worried yet. I think he'll pick up quite fast once hes figured things out. Among his list of vocab are: Nak Mommy (sekaliiiiiiiiiii je, on 23rd May 2010, he wont say it again until today!!) Mak (saje test, rupa2nya boleh cakap mak) Mama Ayah (VERY CLEARLY! Grrr. Jeles.) Ayam Nenen Hai Moh (as in jom) Atok Tik tok (the clock) No Nom (minum) Tu (shoes) Tutu (bunyi chicken, can also mean choo choo train, or susu) Auu (the cat) tatang (tam tam, his doll monster) Arrrr (like roarrrr. he means the lion or tiger, or pretty much anything that roars) Uuuuu (the sound of an owl) Huuuu (while ...

A Non-weekend

Image
a-non-(blank): (Replace blank with any noun). Definition: This phrase is used whenever you want to tell that (blank) is not up to standard or what it’s supposed to be. Example: This is a non-paper! There’s not enough analysis! Alright. Enough with my workipedia .   Reno works on the house has started. We’re extending the house 6 ft to the back, bagi kitchen besar sikit . InsyaAllah , based on the kitchen plan we have now, my new kitchen will be bright and airy! Suka ! Then I can have little herb plants on my window sill! Suka lagi ! Alright i gotta stop talking like a teeny bopper. But really, who can not jump up and down excitedly after getting what they want? So now we have to look for tiles for the kitchen floor and the backsplash. The problem is, I haven’t even decided on the kitchen color combination, which makes it more difficult for us (read: me) to even narrow down the tiles options! Do you know how many different types of tiles there are out there? ...

Makan Ala Warung Dalam Rumah

Image
Perencah Nasi Goreng Ala Warung by Maggi is certainly an irony. A mockery of the phrase “ home-cooked goodness ” that a lot of people have been using all these while to illustrate how sedap home-cooked meals are.   Alright of course some warung food are hands-down more delicious than home-cooked food, I said SOME ok, SOME, but that’s of course after they’ve been flavored with generous amount of MSG, god -knows-how-many-spoons garam, cheap cooking oil and unwashed kuali. Of cos la sedap! But we often say, there’s nothing like meal prepared at home by mom. But what if your mom or wife uses Maggi’s Perencah Nasi Goreng Ala Warung to masak nasi goreng like the ones you eat dekat kedai? And you say, “ Weh sedap gila mak / bini aku masak nasi goreng macam dekat warung!! ”. Or, " Bie, sedap gila awak masak macam dekat warung! ". I'd be somewhat offended. Weird eh. Weird. The act of cooking at home has lost its novelty. You are supposed to say, “ Mak / bini aku masak nas...
