India: Day 3, 4, 5?
Actually I've lost count of the days.
I started taking breakfat at the hotel since the second day. They serve pretty standard stuff, toast, croisants, boiled eggs, hash browns, baked beans... they do serve indian food, yesterday i had roti canai and some dhal gravy. Today they served pohi and ape tah tak ingat. I just stick to the croisants, jam and butter. I hope I can get some briyani soon. God knows how much I love Indian food. I do, actually. Masa pregnant, saya mengidam chicken biryani shalimar. Shalimar is an indian restaurant in downtown troy. Of course tak dapat so saya mintak ach cari tikka masala. Hihihi. So its such an irony that after 3 days I havent had my biryani yet. Takpe my search for indian food shall be a separate entry on its own.
This time I'm going to tell you about the city and its people. Mula2 saya tulis pasal the people. Perempuan dekat New Delhi ni, mostly pakai sari or salwar kameez (saya panggil baju punjabi). Tak banyak yang pakai skirts or pants. Sopan mereka ni. Or maybe because its winter here, so they cant bare much. Yang lelaki pulak they wear seluar gaya2 bell-bottom or flared pants. Gaya2 yusuf haslam dolu2. Or gaya2 bangla2 dekat KL. Hihihi. Not all wear them, only the tall ones. The short ones they wear normal straight pants.
Next subject, business hours. Most shops open at 11.00 am. There are some that open at 10.00 but that's very2 rare. At 10, New Delhi is equivalent to our 8.00 am. Okay maybe 8.30 but point is its not that busy. Considering the time that they start business, most shops are still open at 10. The roads are still busy at 9. Sama la macam KL kot? Not sure tak keluar malam.
The types of business they do? The place that i went yesterday is similar to our Jalan TAR, banyak shoplots kecik2. Mostly sell tech gadgets. Computers and stuff like that. Followed by sarees and clothes. Ada banyak jugak yang bukak "square" dia sendiri, i.e. bentang tikar merata2 and sell their items. Some of the items include baju (murah!), cadar, cables, and printer and ink cartridge(?!). Maybe orang india ni heavy user of printers, sebab memang merata2 dia jual. The way they sell is just longgokkan je 4-5 kotak printer and duduk ah tunggu customer. Some even jual ink dalam botol, as in bring your empty catridge and they'll fill it for you. Aneh jugak saya rasa.
the square i was talking about
sebelah kiri tu dia jual printer
Then we talk about the drivers. They seem to have their hands fixed to the horns. Sikit2 hon. Sakit jantung ok. I almost got run over yesterday sebab terkejut dengar kena hon dari belakang. Horns pretty much replace the functions of lampu signal or the high beam. Nak tukar lane? Hon saje. Orang depan lambat? Takpe tak payah susah2 high beam or tunggu, hon saje. Nak overtake and nak suruh orang yang nak di-overtake slow down? Hon saje! Lanes juga seem to be an almost alien thing. The whole width of the road can fit around 6 cars or 8 tuk tuks.
Lepas tu we talk about security. Strict jugak security in India ni. At every building entrance (big buildings, that is) ada metal detector macam kat airports tu. What's the name of that thing? Anyways, nak masuk cinemas pun kena screen, masuk McD pun screen, check bag lagi. Then nak masuk basement parking pun they screen your car. They have this tool which has a 45degree-angled mirror attached to it, at every entrance of a basement parking they will use this thing to check bawah kereta dulu. Dah lepas baru jalan. I don't know what they check for. But I guess its good lah. I feel safer now. =)
