KITA NI ORANG TIMUR, PENUH DENGAN SOPAN SANTUN DAN ADAT KETIMURAN.
Yeah right.
Some Malaysians, I said SOME, are savages, not civilized, rude dan sewaktu dengannya. They have no, what some people would say, COMMON COURTESY.
Please, pay attention to the word SOME, some okay, sesetengah, minority group, tak semua, bukan aku generalize sume Malaysians, kang jangan ada yang hentam aku tak tentu pasal plak. Kalau tak jadi aku tak mengata...
So what brings me to say that?
Hari ni, aku keluar gi beli bende. Kat somewhere. So while I was doing my shopping, there was this one makcik, walking towards the cashier counter with both her hands full of albums. Nak buat cerita, one of her albums jatuh right in front of me, btul2 kat kaki aku. So, common sense le, aku pon amekkan la buku tu, takkan nak sepak lagi jauh plak kan? (right now i wished i'd done that)I put the album kat atas album2 lain atas tangan dier ni la, sambil senyum sesweet2nya.
To my surprise, this makcik didn't even say thank you. Jangankan cakap Thank You, she didn't even smile. HALLO??? Pulak tu, jeling aku plak. Hoi setannya makcik!
So I said out loud, "Sama-sama makcik!" Muehehe lagi kena jeling. Sebelum kena fire, aku bla cepat2. Oi sakitnya hati.
Maybe some of you would say, dah tolong tu tolong je la, kalau ikhlas batpe nak expect ape2?
Yeah that's right, you do have a point there, but, you see, that's why people call it common courtesy. Aku bukannya harap dia kasi aku dua ringgit ke ape, you know, it's just a friendly gesture la kan, to show that you appreciate what people have done to you. Ini nak berlagak datin2 konon ngan aku. Sepak kang. Bende2 common sense la, cam cakap trima kasih, or smile, or what ever la to show that you acknowledge that people. Tak susah kan nak senyum? Tak mati weyh.
Another example of the lack of common courtesy in the society is on the road; kat toll la, instead of just trying to get through the toll sesabar2 yang mungkin, ada je makhluk2 alam yang konon2 dia je yang penat yang busy nak cepat sampai rumah, like other people are not as important as him, who would try to cut in front of others. Awak je ye yang busy?
And another example; those who would just potong you without kasi signal. Oi jangan la endanger other people's lives!
Want another example? Yang naik LRT who just dont seem to care for elder women, memang tak reti la nak give up their seats.
Hmm ada lagi, yang masuk pintu tak reti nak hold the door for orang belakang, letting the door slam into their faces, lagi2 kalau orang belakang tgh pegang barang takbley nak hold the pintu. Oi pikir la. PIKIR SKET!
And the list goes on...
So what happened to this "Nilai Timur", "Kesopan santunan orang timur" "orang kita terkenal dengan sifat sopan santun" yang dibangga-banggakan selama ni? Or maybe, orang kita ni biased. Ada double standard. Kat orang puteh, dia sopan2, senyum2, kat orang sendiri dia buat tak layan. Kalau cerita on the road, itu memang takbley nak kata apa, terkenal seantero dunia Malaysians ara savages bila bawak kereta.
Sopan santun, my dears, need not only be practised to the persons you know, not necessarily to the elders, but also to the people around you. Pakcik driver bas, makcik janitor, Datuk2 Datin2, budak2 skolah, makcik2 kantin... Tak payah la bangga kalau takat sopan santun ngan tourist2 Mat2 Minah2 Sallehs, kalau ngan orang2 sendiri tak reti nak sopan.
Buat ape bangga orang negara lain kate "Malaysians? Oh, they're very friendly people" kalau orang negara sendiri kata "Malaysians are savages."
We are actually hiding a lot of ugly truths behind this "Nilai Timur" facade.
Aren't you ashamed of yourselves?? I know I am.
