About Rich, Low-profile Kerepek Towkays
My colleagues and I went to Kanchong Darat, Banting for an eye-openening site visit. So the purpose of the visit was to check out the"industri desa" available in the area that can be shown to Mak Arabs, participants of some international cooperation programme. First off, we were briefed on the types of activities done by Makcik-Makcik women entrepreneurs (from now on shall be addressed as WEs) of Kanchong Darat under the Kumpulan Pembangunan Wanita (KPW) Gemilang banner. So, check this out, the WEs of Kg Kanchong Darat generate RM 10 million per year. All 200 of them, so thats like.... on average 5K per month each. But, the thing is, some of them actually get a clean 10K every month. Damnnn... I'm busting my ass off just to buy a picanto. Mau makan pun semput-semput aje.
The first WE we visited has a kilang bahulu next to her house. Bukan bahulu je makcik ni buat, she also repackages kerepek2 from some kerepek towkey and rebrands them, letak dalam packaging macam Pringles, and exports them off to Hong Kong, Indon, Pakistan, Bangladesh, yada yada yada. From what the makcik said, her kerepek are selling like hot cakes out there. And, there are FIVE cars in her porch to prove that.
Next stop was Ros Enterprise. I thought Ros is a lady but the name actually comes from Roslan. Mati mati aku ingat Rosmah. Or Rosemary. Or Rosnah. En. Roslan is a kerepek wholesaler. He supplies kerepek across Malaysia. What that means is, kerepek2 korang nampak kat pasar2 malam tu, label je lain lain ntah ntah datang from satu supplier. Tipah tertipu, bang!
He has 500 acres of kebun or ladang ubi, from which he gets his supplies of ubi. Then, 5 makcik2 peels an amazing 2 tonnes of keledek/ubi a day, which then are sliced up and fried to be kerepeks.
This man has a C200 Kompressor in his porch along with a Harley Davidson. His house sama size je ngan rumah aku ni.
My boss' next plan is: To quit his job and open a kilang kerepek, and get his Kompressor after 2 years.
About Funny Names
On the way back to KL from Banting, my quick-thinking boss pointed out something funny to us.
KEDAI EMAS TAI YICK
Get it or not??? Hehehe... of course if one does not speak Malay very well then it wouldnt be kelakar. But its kelakar as hell to me. Maybe thats a marketing strategy, maybe Mr. Tai Yick was thinking,
"Hey, I've got a catchy shop name. That'll attract people. Even if they didnt come and buy something, they'll at least write about it in their blogs. Free marketing maaa!"
And tadaaa, kedai emas tai yick was born.
2 days ago, Ada and I were talking about participants of the MTCP programme, an international cooperation programme with OIC member countries. Few MTCPs ago, a participant was selected solely because of his name. Guess what his name is?

A good friend of mine, Nawaal aka Mrs Kecik got married on 6th May 2007. One down. 3 more to go. By now I know Nawaal has been bombarded with x-rated questions from her perverted friends. Nawaal has even thought of a standard answer to the fav question: "How's the fist night?". To know the answer, sila la tanya nawaal. =P
Quoting a friend's SMS, "Happy 8th first night" nawaal!
Ninie is getting married so is Syazana of Arizona. In PPP, Sya was among those predicted to marry paling lambat. Turns out, she's third, after Kay and Ninie. Or second, I'm not sure if Sya nikah dulu or Ninie. But doesnt matter they'll both be LADIES by 4th of June. Lalalala...
Mine? Cant even decide what color the hantaran should be.
