Things that Could Make This a Better (Cleaner) Place

It's been a very long time since I wrote about stuff that annoys me. You know, few years ago I always used this space to bitch about a lot of things... say... difficult exams, yucky snow, bitchy friends, people calling radio stations to moan about their sad life, etc. I'd thought of linking you to few of those posts, but the posts are so hateful and the language used was so vulgar, you might think differently of me so I decided against it.

But lately a few things have been bugging me and my brain has been repeating the same sentences over and over again, macam begging me to write those sentences down and I know it won't stop until I really write them down.

You know we, Malaysians are know for our timur values? Yes, we are a sopan bunch, we respect our elderlies, our leaders, we soften our comments to soften the blow, we exchange kuih during festive seasons, etc. These are all good values that I'm happy to be associated with.

But.

I would be happier and prouder if we Malaysians can do this:

1. Clean after ourselves at the fast food restaurants...
especially during the busy hours. I know some people will say what's the point of paying the staff if you end up having to do their work for them? But think about it... there are only a few of them and there's only so much they can do in a packed restaurant, they might not be able to immediately clean after you in time for the next customer. It's seriously disgusting for the next customer to pick up your mess, kalau tak tolong buangkan pun even untuk tolak tepi pun aku dah rasa disgusting enough.

Secondly, if the restaurant isn't packed, doing so will help make it look cleaner.

Thirdly, if you still think that you're entitled to leave your mess behind because you've paid the service fee (however small the amount is), at least be kind enough to gather your mess on the tray and wipe the table if you spilled anything. At least make it easier for the guy after you (or the waiter) to put your mess away.

2. Not make puddles of water in the public toilets
Agak geli la nak pijak lantai basah basah tu. You don't know what could be swimming in the puddle. It won't be as disgusting if it's in your house because you know who's stuff you'd kinda be swimming in, but in public toilets... ew.

What we could do is... take the hose, aim, baru turn on the tap. Bukan bukak air and aim. Please be extra careful not to get any water on the floor.

Lepas tu, please make sure that the toilet bowl is clean before you leave it. Make sure that everything is flushed out and nothing floats in it.

And please do not squat on a the toilet bowl. If you're that type who need to squat to get your business done, please use the squatting toilet. You know, squatting on the toilet bowl is not only unhygienic and inconsiderate but it is also dangerous. That thing can break and injure you tau?

Fine, kalau squatting toilet takde and you REALLY need to go, and assuming you have the body weight that is safe for you to squat on the toilet bowl, buat la, you've gotta answer when nature's calling kan? BUT, please be considerate and WIPE the toilet seat clean.

The above should come from our own homes. Marilah, educate anak-anak kita on proper ethics so that Government tak perlu lah waste money untuk buat PSAs on how to use toilets properly.

Come on Malaysians! We can do it.
Let's work together towards cleaner habits. Mari!
