Wrapping Mama!

So I started to embrace babywearing ever since Hadi was 2 weeks old.

Actually no, since Hakimi was a baby! But back then I didn't know that there is more to babywearing than just "wearing your baby". There is this whole geekery behind it; the types of carriers, the materials, the different brands selling them and most important of all the safety aspects of babywearing. Back then, babywearing to me was just an act of wearing a baby so I don't injure my arm muscles.  Baby's comfort was secondary, although I knew Hakimi was comfortable being worn judging by the number of seconds he took to doze off to lalaland.

So I learned to wear Kimi using batik lepas, taught by none other than his bibik. It looked pretty unsafe, with the batik selit-selit just like that, but it was comfortable, and with the right type of batik (non-slippery ones), the selit-selit method is actually pretty sturdy. You can find the tutorial here.

Fast forward 5 years later, I found myself needing a better carrier; mostly because I spent confinement period at home, alone, without Mak's or any maid's help. Hadi was kinda clingy and I was wearing him on most part during the day, that my good 'ol batik started to dig on my shoulders. Off I went to Lunatots in Precint Diplomatik, Putrajaya and was introduced to Moby Wrap. I forever thank the shop owner for introducing me to the dark side of wraps - I haven't gone back since. Actually no, the person responsible is Aimi Fahmi, a friend who introduced me to the Malaysian Babywearers and Babywearing Mamas facebook groups. Yeap, thanks, I have ever since fallen to the dark side of babywearing. Nope, I am definitely not complaining because I am one proud wrap mama!

I said dark side because I occasionally indulge in impromptu wrap purchases, applicable to those that are very pretty and highly-sought-after (HSA) ones and usually are very expensive.Very pretty but I don't need it but I have to have buy because it is listed for sale. I have one of such purchase, and I keep it in the cupboard most of the time because, wah so mahal so sayang to use!

You don't really need a lot of wraps, honestly. You definitely don't need one for every outfit, but you might need one for different purposes, i.e. a fancy one for fancy outings, a shorty for quick in and out outing. You would also need a thin wrap and a thicker one for support. But I don't mind lugging the same 4m piece of kain with me everywhere - kenduri or grocery or shopping or travel or masak - i use the same one all the time. I have deep love for that one. No, it does not smell bad. =)

But now I am pretty much stashified (it means I am satisfied with my collection - "stash", and have no need for more), I have a few thick ones, few thin ones, few HSAs, and one SSC for the hubs to use. I think I am nearing the end of my babywearing days, the only wrapping I do nowadays is chicken tortilla wrap for breakfast.

That's why I'm writing this down, because I know I'll be missing wearing Hadi, especially when I have been wearing him so much. I don't want to forget the moments.

Till next time.
