Insensitivity / Makcik Menyebok??

Three days ago, on our way back from kampong, we stopped at Ayer Keroh R&R. This has somehow been a wajib thing to do, sebab the last time we stopped there with mak, she bought this supposedly sedap kueh koci labu and has asked us to buy them for her everytime balik kampong. Sadly, since then, kitorang tak pernah dapat beli kueh koci tu lagi, sebab orang tu dah tak jual dah… sian mak aku… Sorry, I digress.

At the R&R, while ordering for my waffle peanut butter and chocolate, I noticed tge cashier girl was wearing ear studs in the shape of the six-pointed star that’s used in Israel’s flag, or as the Israelis call it, the Magen David. I thought that was quite insensitive of her, I mean, with all the brutal genocide and annihilation the Israelis have done and being the war criminals they are. The girl’s Malay, or at least looked and talked like one.

I don’t know if I was being too sensitive or apa, but I felt like I had to ask the girl if she knows what she’s wearing. At the risk of sounding and looking like a typical makcik-makcik yang sebok, I asked her:

Aku: “Excuse me, awak tau ke symbol ape awak pakai kat telinga tu?”
Girl: “Symbol ape?”
Aku: “Kat subang u tu la.. itu symbol bendera Israel tu…”
Girl: “Ohh.. tau…”
Aku: “Oh, okay. Saje je I thought you didn’t know. Bye!”

And I walked away, feeling quite embarrassed and regretted what I’d just done, I mean making such a big fuss of such a small thing.

If I were the girl, I’d be like, “Apehal makcik tu sebok2 aku nak pakai ape? Sukati aku la aku nak pakai ape pun.”

So, if you were me, would you do the same because u think she’s being insensitive and it’s your responsible to educate an ignorant person, or just walk away because it’s actually not much of a big deal??
