Quilling!

The blogosphere is pretty quiet nowadays… the links on my daily read feed only change every two or three days. Or is it just me?

Oh well, nevermind.
I’ve always been into crafting. I’ve done a couple of craft projects in the past, appliques for Kimi’s rompers, Kimi's felt mobile,  his felt ABC book, our third anniversary booklet.

Now I’m past the felt phase… because I’ve found quilling. It’s totally addictive yo. I keep finding occasions just to have reason to quill (bunyi macam orang nerd. I always have nerdy hobbies). Since I was not born creative, I had to google “quilling patterns, quilling cards” and just copied other ppl’s design sebab nak design sendiri tak reti.

You see, quilling is just like drawing, only harder because you have to translate drawings into blocks of shapes. So, tiru orang punya lagi senang. Takpe, bukan aku jual pun those cards.
So far, I’ve done 4 projects, actually 5 but I didn’t give one to anybody so it doesn’t count.

My very first quilling project was for Ach’s father’s day card. I used whatever I had in the office that time and made a quilled bottle and what felt like gazillions teardrop quills to fill in a huge heart shape. Nothing fancy, but I still found it cute.

some of the quills dah rosak Kimi tarik

Project no. 2 to 5 were all done this year, between Sept and October. Hahaha. I’m addicted I tell yah! Proj. No. 2 is for a bestie’s new born baby girl. I made a stroller, baby bottle and a painfully leceh capital-K (the baby’s mommy called her Baby K, hence the letter K). I made this when I was in China. You see, I had wrongly estimated the size of the stroller that the final shape overflows its frame, while the bottle frame seems too empty. This made the card looked unbalanced. Nampak sangat aku amateur quiller.

That K is a pain in the ass. Still... I would make it again. =)

Project No. 3 is for Ach’s Graduation Day. I made orang in graduation robe and cap. Actually in the final card that guy is holding a scroll, tapi tak sempat snap the pic. I’m really proud of this one sebab I did the design all by myself. The initial design was wayyy more complicated than the final one, I was supposed to be in the card too… I wanted to quill myself kissing him on the cheek tapi takpela, macam susah sangat je so I scraped that idea.

The tassle is my fav part. Took me hours to quill the letters.
Project no. 4 is for Nureen, my niece’s 10th Birthday. Actually it's her birthday today, so Happy Birthday Nureen! I'm happy that my obsession has rubbed off on Kimi, he was the one who requested to "gulung-gulung" this card.

Those are supposed to be balloons. Do they look like balloons to you?
There are actually another two cards, one is completed but I haven’t given it to the recipient while another one is a dinosaur in progress. I’ll post em up later.

So there you go. My latest obsession.

Oh, I get inspirations from http://www.allthingspaper.net/.

I'm always happy to meet another quiller! I think your cards look great (everything takes practice at first, not to worry) and it's really good that you enjoy thinking up original designs. Thanks for linking to my site btw, otherwise I probably wouldn't have found yours. :)
